PUT AWAY CHILDISH THINGS
When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
1 Corinthians 13:11
The Greek word for child here is “nepios” which means an
infant, a babe, one who cannot speak, a simple minded person and an immature
Christian. The Greek word for man here is “aner” which means a man of mature
understanding. God wants you to put away childish things and become mature in
your understanding.
There are two stages in Christianity which are a babyhood
stage and maturity stage; carnal and spiritual. It goes without saying that you
start out as a baby who is carnal, however you need to mature and be spiritual.
You need to grow from being simple minded and become wise!
As new born babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that
you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
1 Peter 2:2-3
You grow by going for the Word; the Word of God is spiritual
food. You also need to pray; prayer is spiritual drink. You need the Word and
prayer, the Word and the Spirit, wisdom and understanding. The Word gives you
wisdom and prayer gives you understanding! Put away childish things and become
mature by giving yourself to the Word and prayer.
Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away
from the words of my mouth.
Proverbs 4:5
When you become a mature believer you can teach others. When
you become a mature Christian you can win souls and lead many to righteousness.
You can liberate and empower others. You can make a difference and change your
sphere of contact.
Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the
firmament, and those who turn many to righteousness like the stars forever and
ever.
Daniel 12:3
Thought of the day: I should put away childish things and be
a mature Christian.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You that You want me to grow and
become mature, thank You for the Word and prayer that bring about that growth,
in the name of Jesus. Amen.
