EMPOWERED TO OBEY GOD
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
Joshua 1:8
According to the above Scripture, you have
to spend time in the Bible in order to do according to all that is written in
it. Nevertheless, there are a lot of Christians who want to obey God, they want
to obey the Word, but they fail because they fail to spend time in the Word.
As a Christian, you don’t just instantaneously
become a doer of the Word because you have to be empowered to be a doer of the
Word. You are empowered to be a doer of
the Word by spending time with God. When you make spending time with God a
priority, you become a doer of the Word.
The children of Israel struggled to obey
God. However, when Moses asked them to come close to God and hear Him, they
refused. Nevertheless, they thought they could still obey God. They wanted to
obey God from a distance, but that would not work.
Then they said to Moses, “You speak with
us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die.” And Moses
said to the people, “Do not fear; for God has come to test you, and that His
fear may be before you, so that you may not sin.”
Exodus 20:19-20
When you spend time with God, His fear will
be before you and you will be empowered to obey Him. The more time you spend
with God, the more you will be empowered to obey Him.
God is gracious and He loves you. He wants
a living relationship with you. God wants you to come close. As you draw near
to Him, He draws near to you and you will be empowered to obey Him.
Draw near to God and He will draw near to
you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you
double-minded.
James 4:8
Thought of the day: The more I spend time
with God, the more I am empowered to obey Him.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your
love and thank You that when I come close to You, I will be more empowered to
live according to Your Word, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
